The Yoga Shop offers an athletic and creative expression of yoga

By S. Mathur

At the Yoga Shop, heat frees the body and mind. Annie Q, co-owner and founder of LivFree Power Yoga, likens the concept of the location to a challenging form of expression.

"LivFree Power Yoga is a brilliant expression of yoga that speaks to students looking for an athletic and creative expression of yoga," she said. "Our classes are physically challenging and transformational."

The studio offers classes in Vinyasa yoga and its motto could be "We believe in HEAT!" The classes are conducted in rooms reaching as high as 90 degrees.

"We heat our classes to 90 degrees to support the body in opening and detoxing," Annie said. "We believe in working hard so that we learn the power of 'trying easy.' LivFree Power is a complete experience, every single class."

The routines push students to their utmost potential. Classes are open to all levels, but beginners are advised to start with LivFree Foundations. The signature class is LivFree Power UP, open to all levels and definitely challenging. The heated studio integrates sweat, strength and spirit. Power Yoga also draws upon Annie's background in the martial arts and personal training to create a unique workout.

"We are a vibrant community that looks each other in the eye, talks to each other, and are genuinely invested in one another," Annie said. "At The Yoga Shop you are not alone, new students are embraced and supported by the team and fellow students. We can be loud. We laugh a lot. We have fun, and we are respectful."

Students love everything about the classes, from the inspirational quotes at the beginning to the cinnamon tea afterwards. They find that the classes are some of the toughest they've ever taken, and they keep coming back for more. Some will even drive for over an hour to get there. That's because The Yoga Shop is an amazing place.

"We believe in living big," Annie said. "We believe in love. We use our mats to explore and experiment with what we think is so, and with what is real and possible. I guarantee if you buy into yourself, the Shop will support you in not only changing your body but also your mind. You do that and anything is possible."

Those who are curious about the studio and the classes can take the first one for free. Classes are scheduled to make it easier to get to after work. Yoga vacations take students to such exotic locations as Bali, Mexico and Machu Picchu. Other events include workshops, open studio and community yoga events.

All teachers are certified and, like Annie, believe in yoga and its transformative power. Teacher training classes are offered at all levels.
