The Race Brook Country Club Is Over A Hundred Years Old And Going Strong

With its rolling greens and spreading trees, the Race Brook Country Club in Orange presents a typically idyllic Connecticut landscape. The club was founded in 1912 and the original golf course with 18 holes opened a year later. It was designed by Robert D. Pryde, who has been the first coach of the Yale University golf team.

Race Brook is one of the oldest country clubs in the country. The main golf course on the club's sprawling 145 acres is considered one the finest in all of New England. It has hosted numerous championships like the 2004 New England Amateur Championship and the 2005 Connecticut PGA Championship, the 2011, the New England Senior Amateur Championship and the 2012 Connecticut Amateur Championship.

Members can enjoy a game on the the rolling greens, as well as events at the clubhouse with its classic architecture. Club facilities can accommodate a variety of events, from formal to casual, indoor and alfresco.

"Our enchanting location, is the ideal Connecticut event destination," Robin Grande, Food and Beverage Director, said. "Our beautiful gardens provide a spectacular backdrop for an unforgettable events. Inside, the Banquet Hall is set in traditional fashion with handsome surroundings and furnishings."

Several levels of membership are available, including full individual and family memberships, and social memberships for those who don't play golf but wish to enjoy the gracious social atmosphere at the club. There are no prerequisites for membership. Members enjoy numerous benefits as well as privileges at associated clubs.

"The remarkable condition of the championship course, practice area and the O'Sullivan course, a unique 'inside nine' provides year round enjoyment for all ages and levels of play," Grande said. "We offer a 18 and 9 hole membership as well as social and corporate memberships, reciprocal golf privileges at our sister club in Scotland and optional Tennis and Swim privileges at The Paugusset Club."

The scenic grounds provide the perfect backdrop for all kinds of events like weddings, personal celebrations, business meetings and even barbecues. Staff are both experienced and highly professional, trained to carry off any kind of event successfully. The golf shop offers all equipment, apparel and supplies for the game. The private lounge and grille room are a place for members to enjoy a quiet evening.

Over a hundred years after its opening, the Race Brook Country Club is still going strong. In 2016, readers of New Haven Living Magazine picked it as the Best Golf Course in New Haven County.
