Listen to the Music of Your Heart At Studio RJB

By Elisha Neubauer

For Rebecca Corbin, owner of Studio RJB in New Haven, Connecticut, music is indeed her food of love.

Working professionally in the music industry, Corbin is able to bring a new twist to the music studio she operates. Corbin's background as a mixed professional singer affords her the ability to teach a variety of styles, methods, and genres and reach a wider range of students. Corbin has previously worked in an Off-Broadway cabaret, performed as a professional pop/rock singer, and she has even graced the stage of the famed Carnegie Hall while achieving her B.A. in music from the University of Bridgeport.

"I am able to teach my students what casting directors, and companies look for," Corbin said. "I have students who have auditioned for Broadway, The Voice, American Idol as well as local community theater."

Of course, music isn't Corbin's only love. She excels when placed in an environment that requires her to act in a teacherlike position. Corbin began to find her love of teaching when she worked as a teacher's aide for children with disabilities, such as Down's syndrome and autism.

"I fell in love with teaching and specifically that community," Corbin said.

Her love and passion for teaching show through her work at Studio RJB. Every lesson, every performance is crafted with great attention to detail and individuality. Her lessons are catered to each student, letting everyone learn at their own pace without feeling left behind or lost.

"I am also training new teachers to teach so that I can form a music school that can accommodate more people to learn music in a safe, comfortable environment," Corbin said.

Corbin is affiliated with IVTOM (International Voice Teachers of MIX) as an accredited teacher of MIX. She also holds a NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) and VASTA (Voice and Speech Trainers Association) certification.
