JJ's Italian Kitchen Follows Their Own Dreams Into the Food Industry

By Elisha Neubauer

After spending forty combined years in the restaurant industry, building up everyone else's businesses, Julie and Joe Dusa decided it was time to take matters into their own hands?and follow their own dreams.

It was as if fate stepped in when a mutual friend of the couple pointed out a choice location. The two, quickly enamored with the setting, decided to pounce and before long, JJ's Italian Kitchen stepped out of the dream world and into reality. "We had always dreamed of owning our own place and this is the one," exclaimed Julie Dusa.

The location fit the two like a glove, giving them the exact clientele they felt comfortable with, while providing a steady stream of income for the eatery. The casual dining atmosphere settled in nicely, gaining popularity in the area quite quickly. "The area that we are in is very industrial, lots of businesses and garages," stated Dusa. "Salt of the earth people."

>The menu is as eclectic as the patrons, offering a little something for everyone. Our menu is an Italian pizza kitchen," Dusa said. "We have a huge business area around us so we do a ton of subs during lunch." Both cold and hot subs are available for lunches, as well as hard rolls and wraps. "We offer different lunch specials daily and our traditional Italian dinners are just like Nonnie used to make," she noted. The menu selections also offer appetizers, salads, paninis, calzones, stuffed breads, pizzas (regular and specialty), and full entrees.

As the restaurant became a staple of the Hamden area, it allowed the Dusas to branch out, expanding their business in ways they could have only dreamed about. "We have also been very lucky to be growing our catering and delivery business," Dusa detailed. "We offer party trays for any occasion and free delivery to all of Hamden and parts of North Haven."

Party tray options vary from the that of the regular menu, but are still just as appetizing?including options such as veggie and cheese platter, fruit and cheese platter, stuffed mushrooms, Antipasto platter, stuffed breads, and more. They are available in both half and full sized trays to truly cater to the size of your event.
