It's Fun to Get Messy at Splat Art Studio

By Jake Levin

Kate McNamee is more than just the owner of Splat Art Studio in Wallingford, Conn.

She's an educator parlaying her love of art into an educational resource that is actually fun for children.

"Art and creativity play an extremely important role for children of all ages," McNamee said. "Children learn to express feelings, with or without words, learn to problem solve, builds their self confidence and [are introduced to] the cultures of the world. Plus, it's fun to get messy."

The cheery and spacious studio is designed for students to create masterpieces and memories in a safe and loving environment. All types of art mediums are explored at Splat Art Studio, with only the finest materials available including watercolors, colored pencils, charcoals, acrylics, oil pastels and paper mache.

"Students will be inspired to try new techniques and improve their skills," McNamee said. "Small classes ensure one on one attention."

Art classes are offered year round, including art camps over the summer. Two adult favorites include Paint & Sips and Paint Your Pet events. Splat offers other functions such as fundraisers, private paint parties perfect for birthdays, bridal showers, bachelorette, corporate and team building. No matter which setting you find yourself in, you'll be challenged to channel your inner Picasso and enjoy the creative process.

"We specialize in creating magical and memorable events," McNamee said. "There are so many amazing parts to teaching art, but a few highlights are the excitement one gets when they have finished a painting that they thought was not possible or a student running into class because they are so excited to start class or the smile on ones face when they recognize a Da Vinci painting."

McNamee said that Splat Art Studio has been "creating and teaching art from the heart" since 2007, with the studio currently celebrating 10 amazing years.

Splat Art Studio is located at 106 South Colony Road in Wallingford, Conn. To learn more about other services offered, visit its website, www.splatartstudio.com.
