Greek Means Fresh at Freskos

At the crossroads of Whitney and Dixwell Avenues in Hamden is Freskos, a restaurant serving up fresh Greek cuisine. The place is a great stop for Quinnipiac University students or for those looking for a bite while exploring nearby shops, the Irish History Museum, or the Sleeping Giant State Park.

Owner Peter Vouras has simple reasons for opening Freskos: "I have always liked Greek food and the healthy aspects of it. I felt there was a need for it in Connecticut." So he decided to fill this need himself, opening a "fast, casual place that one might find in Athens or the Greek Islands."

Freskos has been successful so far. With 5 out of 5 stars on Facebook and 4.8 out of 5 on Google, reviewers are praising prices, service, and, most importantly, the taste of Vouras' food. "All our food is made fresh to order with the best ingredients, including imported feta, which is creamy and smooth," Vouras says.

Vouras serves a variety of traditional Greek fare. Diners can choose from classic Greek entrees. Of course there are souvlaki choices and the classic gyro, Greek and Horiatiki salads, pita pizzas, seasonal soups, and a yogurt bar. The yogurt bar has several options: traditional or non-fat yogurt with toppings consisting of Greek honey, agave nectar, fruits, different types of Glyko, granola, nuts, and raisins. Entrees can be paired with sides of stuffed grape leaves, feta and olives, pita, or an orzo salad. And for refreshments, guests can choose from Greek coffee, VAP Greek Soda, or VIKOS Greek Spring water.

Freskos' delicious food is available Monday through Saturday. So when you're craving fresh Mediterranean cuisine that promises a high-quality experience, stop by. After all, as the website assures, "It's all Greek to us."
