From Ancient Greece to Modern Connecticut at Stamford's Agora Spa

By Elisha Neubauer

In the times of ancient Greece, the agoras were a gathering place; well known for their popularity. Today, the Agora Spa is following its namesake's footsteps, becoming an equally popular location to gather, relax, and just unwind. The Agora Spa has a convenient location, nestled on the second floor of the centralized Stamford Marriott Hotel. It has enticed such a following that it has collected several awards, including the famed Top 100 Spas Award from spAward, proving it to be a trusted brand. The spa is open to everyone?including local residents, tourists, and business travelers?making it an integral part of the community.

Aside from an opportune location, Agora Spa offers the best of the best in treatments and atmosphere. A relaxing entry, Swiss shower with thirteen jet heads, steam room, several teas, infused water, fresh fruit and snack bars all await visitors within the doors. "Agora is an urban oasis with great reviews and staff," states Joycie Lewis, CEO of Agora Spa. For those suffering from aliments such as acne or scarring, there are options to help alleviate this issue. "We have outstanding facials that bring about results from Acne to Anti-Aging," explains Lewis. "Spa treatments overall will assist in helping to reverse the aging process."

The 3,600 square foot spa boasts a relaxing ambiance, enhancing the treatments and amenities available. Six private treatment rooms provide the ultimate in privacy. A couples' room is also available, for those looking to share the spa experience. There is a state of the art wet room as well as fully equipped locker rooms including thirteen head Swiss showers and fully functional steam rooms. The spa provides revitalizing shampoos, conditioners, soaps, and lotions, to kick off the relaxation. Separate men's and women's lounges provide a tranquil space to unwind, allowing you to wait in a soothing environment crafted from calming colors and décor. VIP room service, light refreshments, comfortable couches, and flat screen TVs add to the luxury of your visit.

"Guests and members are invited to watch their favorite movie, enjoy a glass of wine, or cozy up with a favorite book or magazine, as they indulge in our welcome getaway, seven days a week," explains the Agora Spa website.

Every spa provides signature treatments, and the Agora Spa is no different. Some of their exclusive treatments include the Agora Energy Facial, Agora Gentlemen's Facial, Agora Signature Massage, and the Agora Perfect Spa Journey, which involves a gentle exfoiliation, toning body wrap, customized facial and scalp massage, and an aromatherapy facial mask. Other services include skin care therapies and enhancements, body works, hand and foot treatments, gentle hair removal, massage and touch therapies, and Agora spa journeys. Corporate programs, spa parties, reward programs, and bridal packages provide additional manners to enjoy the Agora experience.

In today's society of constant contact and business, it is important to take a moment for oneself to just relax. In fact, relaxation is the best way to improve and maintain mental health and energy, in addition to the physical health benefits spa treatments provide. "Revive, relax, and rejuvenate is the key to a healthy life," Lewis details. "You're able to go back out and spread calmness. Mindfulness!"
