Elana Goodridge Photography Helps Clients Relive Their Special Occasions

By Pamela Sosnowski

Like a lot of photographers, Elana Goodridge discovered her love for the camera at a young age, but then took a detour into another industry before finally realizing she could make a living utilizing her passion.

"I fell in love with photography when I was a young girl," she says. "My father gave me an old Nikon camera and I had so much joy looking at the world through its lens. Even so, the thought of pursuing a career as a photographer hadn't entered my mind. I have always been drawn to faces and emotions and I was happy taking pictures for myself and for the people I'd shoot."

After photographing a party and receiving a lot of accolades from its guests about the quality of her work, Elana decided to make the jump from the corporate world to the photography business. "After years in the finance industry I suddenly found myself asking what is it I really want to do. The answer had been in front of me for a long time but it was this moment that crystallized everything for me."

She is now the owner of Elana Goodridge Photography, describing herself as a passionate, documentary-style photographer. Based in NYC, she serves the metro, tri state area, and beyond. Elana's portfolio reveals that she is adept at shooting a wide variety of events, including weddings, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, parties, and portraits..

But what sets her apart is her ability to create a harmonious relationship between a couple's backdrop and the subjects themselves. In one shot, a couple holds hands while the yellow blur of a Times Square whizzes behind them, giving the illusion of time stopping within their own personal space. In others, the Manhattan skyline or Central Park play a complementary supporting role.

"Really it's about making the personal connection and allowing the subject to relax and experience their emotions," she explains. "The location, no matter how beautiful or iconic it may be, is still a backdrop to the feelings that are on display."

She also offers video services with the finished product consisting of a short highlight reel and a longer overview of the entire event.

Elana was recently named one of 30 top wedding photographers by Wedaward, an international wedding photography directory. She also has received praise from her many clients, who thank her for allowing them to be able to relive their experience through photos and film. In return, Elana is grateful for the gift of capturing human expression as her clients celebrate joyful occasions.

"I'm really drawn to the emotional moments at these milestone celebrations," she says. "Since I love faces and expressions that's always what I'm attracted to in the moment ."
