5 Ideas for New Window Treatments ... and More: An Interview with Nancy McCormack of The Shoppes at Whittemore Crossing

By Nancy McCormack

Please tell us a little bit about your company and the services you offer.

The Shoppes at Whittemore Crossing offers a selection of best-quality consignment furniture from all over the Northeast as well as one of a kind and antique pieces. At the Shoppes we also offer Juliska china, Mackenzie Childs, our Design Center, Café and Candy Shoppe, new furniture brands, and fine linens such as Sferra and Matouk. As part of our Design Shoppe we offer window treatments such as Hunter Douglas and custom draperies and bedding.

What are some of the most popular styles for new window covers in Connecticut homes?

Right now drapery panels on rods with rings are popular as well as soft Roman shades in natural and woven wood styles.

What are the biggest factors that people should consider when they're shopping for custom window treatments?

The biggest factors are light control and privacy, then color and style.

Can you briefly talk about the main choices that they'll need to make?

What type of style fits their home, color, design, and how they will be used.

When you're working on design with a homeowner, what are some areas that you always try to address?

You need to address a budget so you can set parameters for design, installation, time frames and fabrication choices.

What advice would you give to homeowners who are decorating their house and want to include some stylish and budget-friendly furnishings?

As a consignment shop we have so many beautiful pieces that it's hard not to find something that anyone can afford. The money you can save on those pieces allows you to spend on new furniture.
